Exploring Mont Tremblant

Mont Tremblant is about 130km north west of Montreal and is a heaven for year-round outdoor activities and major sporting events including Formula One and Ironman triathlons. So, naturally, we had to go check it out.

Wanting to make the most of our day, we picked up our hire car early, packed the esky with picnic supplies and headed north out of Montreal. We made a quick stop at Tim Hortons (I know, with only 4000 in Canada, how did we ever find one right?) and then continued to our first stop in the Mont Tremblant National Park. Our adventures in the national park included a hike to La Roche Lookout, a shorter hike to Chute du Diable (Devil’s Waterfall) and then some relaxing and swimming at Lake Monroe. We’d taken our wetsuits but decided the water was just warm enough to not bother with them.

In the afternoon I was behind the wheel for the first time on Canadian roads and we drove around to the Mont Tremblant Ski Resort, which is open all year round to host outdoor enthusiasts, festival goers and major sporting events. I didn’t have to look too far to find banners still up from the Ironman race held only a couple of weeks earlier along with Ironman stickers on shop front windows. Wandering through the resort, it has a certain Disneyland feel to it – so charming that you wonder if it’s all a trap. To finish the day, and at the risk of falling into our own tourist trap, we got ourselves a table on the balcony of one of the many restaurants and had some dinner before heading home. A long day out but definitely one to remember.
